We are attempting to collect, capture, record, organise and share as much of the history of chapel and the community around it as possible – this section will continue to develop as we find out more. In 1956 a History Booklet was written celebrating the first 100 years, and has been updated twice since – this is available to read online and all three editions can be viewed there. In the Chapel Building section we have pictures of the building over time – inside and out – and events such as renovations and the time it flooded. We have built a database containing all the records and information we have about interments in the Burial Ground, and an increasing amount of information about family connections between them. We have a history of all the Ministers who served the congregations, and have a picture of each except one! We are working to collect as many pictures of the life of the church as we can, and have started with some great collections in the People & Events section. Lastly, we have a Conundrums section, where we are looking for help to try to understand some of the parts of the story that seem unclear.
We aim to grow this section over time, as we are able to gather more information and organise it. We have the following planned enhancements in progress:
- Photos of all extant memorials in the chapelyard, linked to the database and mapped.
- Links between people in the database and photos on the site which include them.
- Marriage Register added to database, and associated pictures where possible.
- Collections of Memories from people who remember the chapel and its community.
If you can help with any information, pictures, memories or other artefacts we would be hugely grateful if you would share them with us; naturally we will respect your privacy if you do not want them online – we are keen to get as full as picture as possible.
